Architecture does not exist in a vacuum. Rather, it is a cultural act that serves as a means to engage community. It creates space, not simply building. A space in which a distinct relationship with the community as well as a broader cultural context is established. A space of activity and engagement. Architecture serves as a backdrop. As a FiELD in which certain activities take place either through prescription or through enablement. Architecture establishes parameters in which activity occurs while not dictating precisely what is to occur. It is flexible. A scaffolding upon which our community is built.
Architecture is also about materiality. The concreteness of building in space as well as the abstractness of space in building. The quality and tone of a space is greatly affected by the materiality of the scaffolding upon which that space is constructed. The way in which the FiELD is assembled in material and detail is integral the parameters it establishes.
FiELD9: architecture is the Architectural practice of matthew.Stanfield as sole proprietor. The practice was established in 2010 as an outlet for my Architectural interests: theoretical, practical and the synthesis thereof. I am deeply invested in my community of mansfield, OHio (including the greater richland county area) through volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity, involvement with northLake neighborhood watch, Richland Community Development Group, Friends of Mansfield Parks, as well as first Alliance Church where i and my family attend.
In 2003, i obtained my M. Arch degree from the Ohio State University. My experience and schooling have opened my eyes to the need to recognize Architecture as a cultural activity while still serving the needs of the client, both in terms of use and budget. As such, i am committed to working with my clients to bring about innovative and culturally relevant solutions to their programmatic needs.
As a Registered Architect in the State of Ohio since fall of 2005, i am able to provide full Architectural services to clients with projects within the state. I also have my NCARB certification which enables me to work out of state should the need arise. Having worked for Marion Zaugg, Architect & Designer for eleven years, i gained a vast array of experience that enables me to confidently approach any project type with innovative solutions to the practical needs of the client. Some of the projects i was involved with while working for Marion can be viewed at his website which i developed for him while under his employment.
